Lake Titicaca touches both Peru as well as Bolivia, and is regarded as one of the biggest navigable lake globally. From last many years it is becoming one of the favorite tourist spots. The lake introduces us with the grand Inca Empire, as the surroundings are consisting of many primitive Inca ruins. As per Inca mythology, Viracoca, the creator god has generated almost entire world including moon, earth, humans, stars, and sun from the lake vicinity.
The lake contains 41 islands and many among them give us a feeling of an Inca Empire and among all Isla del Sol Island possesses many of Inca ruins. Extended upto 194km in the length and 45 miles in the width, its quantity of water makes it the biggest lake in South America. The lake gets its water filled from water melts from sierras as well as rainfall. The surrounding Andes Mountain adds one more feather in its harmonious beauty. The two sub basins namely Lago Grande and Wiñaymarka of the lake are linked by Strait of Tiquina. The lake vicinity contains two sacred mountains known as Paccha Tata and Paccha Mama and as per the ancient tradition; the local residents climb both the mountains on every year’s 18th January.
Many cultures of Inca period are also alive in the region through the existence of original natives. The natives those were highly inspired from the Inca culture are still following the same tradition.
Some of the renowned and frequently visited Islands are Amantaní, Uros, Isla del Sol, and Taquile Islands, Isla de la Luna among all. From these Islands, people from Taquile are known for still preserving their primeval traditions. Uros Island is renowned for possession of many non-natural Islands that are prepared from reeds. Amantani Island is made up of six villages and the hotels are not available in the area. But, local families are providing food service and allow you to stay at their homes. The Isla del Sol contains approximately 180 Inca ruins however, being a rocky island the road transport system is not available but the boat system is very much there. Isla de la Lu is regarded as home of Mama Quila, the Inca goddess and the buildings of the Island are constructed by the pre-Incan Aymara culture.

You can reach the place either from Peru or Bolivia, as it is located right in middle of both the cities. The cities that will lead you towards the place are Puno from Peru and Bolivia’s Copacabana

Before moving towards the lake, you can also explore through the city is located in close proximity of other must visit monuments also and these are the renowned Macchu Picchu and the picturesque old cathedral also.
If starting from Bolivia is the town of Copacabana. This town is also renowned for its sightseeing and you can be able to witness the presence of several Inca ruins also.
