Cueva de las Manos is the name of a cave, and in English the name literally translates to ‘Cave of Hands’. The cave gets its name from the numerous paintings of hands that are found on its walls; and the cave itself is located in the region of Patagonia within Argentina. In the year 1873, Talampaya was discovered by a German geologist by the name of Alfred Stalzner. Around 70 years after that time, in around 1940, Dr. Joaquin Frenguelli published some findings about Talampaya which was said to leave paleontologists, archeologists and geologists astounded. A lot of scientists began posing questions about this site that had been lost to the desert topography of La Rioja.
The animals and the plant fossils that were discovered here was said to be correspond to the events that took place during the Triassic period of the Mesozoic era, which is said to have happened around 225 million years back. This was the era when large reptiles were said to dominate the land.
